The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 54th session of the Arab Information Ministers Council in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The delegation from Oman, led by Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, discussed media support for the Palestinian cause and the utilization of modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) in Arab media. The Council also examined the recommendations of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media and the implementation of a joint Arab media strategy to combat terrorism. Additionally, the ministers discussed negotiating with international media companies, promoting a media culture focused on the environment, and enhancing the role of Arab women in the media sector.
The Arab Information Ministers Council praised the efforts of Arab media organizations in covering the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories. They acknowledged the documentation of crimes committed by occupation forces against civilians, including media and medical teams. Recommendations from the 5th meeting of the group of experts tasked with evaluating and updating the Arab media action plan were approved. The ministers also supported the assignment of Arab League missions to continue media coverage of the Palestinian cause abroad and approved the production of a documentary film titled “The Arab League’s Journey to Destiny”.
The Council decided to name the 100th regular session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media as “Martyrs of Gaza and the Palestinian Media”. They discussed the development of media education programs to inspire young people to create content on sustainable development, environmental awareness, and developmental issues in collaboration with official establishments and civil society organizations. A theme titled “Crisis, Disaster and Risk Media” was allocated for the current session of the Council, with an emphasis on encouraging the use of AI in producing purposeful media content.
