Conference aims to enhance innovation in preventing metal corrosion

The Oman Summit on Materials, Corrosion, and Technical Readiness began in Muscat with 1,500 researchers participating in the three-day event. The summit aims to promote innovation and collaboration in preventing metal corrosion and preserving the sustainability of metal assets. It will discuss the impact of corrosion on industries such as marine, oil, and gas, and explore innovative strategies to protect metal assets and reduce economic losses due to corrosion. Dr. Talal Al Nabhani, Director of Corrosion and Metals at Petroleum Development Oman, highlighted the importance of finding innovative solutions and modern technologies for long-term protection of infrastructure in industries facing corrosion challenges. Eng. Yahya bin Yousef Al Balushi, Senior Engineer at OQ Exploration and Production, mentioned that OQ will emphasize the use of plastic pipelines and the significance of digitization in the oil and gas sector to prevent rust.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Said Hamad Al Rubai’ee, Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS). The summit aims to foster collaborative efforts between sectors to address the challenges posed by corrosion and develop effective solutions for long-term asset preservation. The conference accompanying the summit will cover important topics related to corrosion mitigation and prevention in various industries, focusing on the latest advancements and best practices in the field.

The summit’s focus on enhancing innovation and cooperation in preventing corrosion and preserving metal assets underscores the importance of finding sustainable solutions to protect infrastructure in key industries.
