The cancellation of Air India Express flights has caused airfares between India and Oman to surge, leaving travellers frustrated. Despite efforts to address cabin crew-related issues, disruptions continued over the weekend, with flights between Mumbai and Muscat, as well as Kannur and Muscat, being cancelled. This led to a spike in ticket prices from other airlines, with fares to Kannur increasing by as much as 400%, reaching around OMR 160. With Go Air no longer operating on the Muscat-Kannur route, passengers now have to rely on airlines flying from Calicut, which is about 100km away, further complicating the situation.

The impact of flight cancellations was not limited to South India, as airfares from Mumbai to Muscat also saw a sharp increase. A flight that typically cost around OMR 150 surged in price on Monday and Tuesday. However, there may be some relief on the horizon, as one-way tickets from Mumbai to Muscat are expected to be priced below OMR 50 starting May 24. Despite this, residents expressed frustration over the rising prices, with some accusing airlines of taking advantage of the situation. Expatriates facing visa expiration deadlines also found themselves financially burdened, as one-way ticket prices rose to around OMR 200.

As travellers continue to grapple with high fares and uncertain flight schedules, the need for regulated pricing and proper scheduling in the India-Oman sector has become a pressing concern for expatriates in Oman. With escalating prices and flight disruptions impacting travellers, there is a call for measures to ensure fair pricing and reliable flight services for those commuting between the two countries.

In conclusion, the unexpected cancellation of Air India Express flights has had far-reaching consequences, causing airfares between India and Oman to skyrocket, leaving passengers in a difficult position. With disruptions persisting and alternative flight options limited, travellers have been forced to pay exorbitant prices for tickets. As the situation unfolds, there is a growing demand for measures to regulate pricing and improve scheduling in the India-Oman sector, in order to provide a more stable and affordable travel experience for expatriates in Oman.
