On the occasion of the 10th International Day of Yoga, the Embassy of India in Muscat, in collaboration with the Indian School Muscat, organized a grand celebration that saw the participation of over 2,000 individuals from various backgrounds. The event featured a common Yoga Protocol session with this year’s theme being “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the positive impact yoga has on both personal well-being and societal harmony. Ambassador Amit Narang highlighted the essence of yoga in today’s context, stating that it not only promotes physical and mental health but also fosters unity and harmony within communities.
Leading up to the International Day of Yoga, the Embassy launched the “Marhaban Yoga: Health, Harmony, and Healing” initiative in April 2024. This initiative included more than 30 yoga events conducted in collaboration with various yoga organizations throughout Oman, catering to individuals of all ages. These events focused on different aspects of yoga such as health, harmony, healing, peace, mindfulness, and overall well-being, showcasing the diverse benefits yoga has to offer. A significant flagship event took place in Salalah, drawing over 300 participants, including esteemed Omani dignitaries, further promoting the widespread practice of yoga in the region.
The success of the “Marhaban Yoga” initiative builds on previous efforts such as the Oman Yoga Yatra in 2022 and the Muscat Yog Mahotsav in 2023, all aimed at popularizing yoga in Oman. The growing popularity of yoga as a health and wellness discipline continues to attract a wide range of practitioners in Oman, who recognize the countless benefits it offers for physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability. Events like these not only promote yoga but also create a sense of unity and togetherness within the community, emphasizing the fundamental principles of the ancient practice.
