The Environment Authority (EA) in Muscat has launched a campaign to plant 10,000 wild trees in Dhofar Governorate in partnership with various public, private, and civil sector institutions. The goal of the campaign is part of a larger project to plant and distribute 60,000 wild trees in the area. Hatem bin Salem Al Mahri, head of the Natural Reserves Department in the Directorate, stated that the campaign will involve planting 500 frankincense trees in Raysut in the Wilayat of Salalah and an additional 9,500 wild trees in the Wilayat of Rakhyut. These trees will include species such as Wild fig, aloe vera, and sidr.

The campaign aligns with the plans and programmes approved by the Environment Authority for the year, focusing on preserving local plants, natural resources, and increasing vegetation cover in natural and pastoral areas in the Dhofar Governorate. This initiative coincides with the national goal of planting 10 million trees. Dhofar Governorate boasts a rich diversity of natural plants, with an estimated 750 species of wild plants covering mountain peaks, valleys, and plains. The Environment Authority is implementing measures to protect and propagate these wild plants through tree nurseries, protected cultivation operations, planting dispersing seeds in wild areas, and pruning and protecting old trees.

The Municipality of Dhofar is collaborating with the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate to support the campaign to plant wild trees. Their efforts focus on preserving local plants and natural resources while increasing vegetation cover in the area. The campaign aims to plant a total of 60,000 wild trees throughout the Dhofar Governorate, with 10,000 being planted in the current campaign. The initiative is a crucial step in supporting the national initiative to plant 10 million trees, with a focus on promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity in the region.

One of the key goals of the campaign is to preserve the diverse natural plant species found in the Dhofar Governorate. With an estimated 750 species of wild plants in the area, there is a significant focus on protecting and propagating these plants through various conservation measures. These efforts include establishing tree nurseries, conducting protected cultivation operations, planting dispersing seeds in wild areas, and maintaining the health of existing trees through pruning and protection. By actively working to safeguard the local flora, the Environment Authority is contributing to the overall ecological health and biodiversity of the region.

The planting of 10,000 wild trees in Dhofar Governorate is just one part of a broader effort to enhance the natural environment of the area. By partnering with public, private, and civil sector institutions, the Environment Authority is able to implement large-scale planting projects that have a significant impact on the local ecosystem. The diversity of natural plants in the region provides a unique opportunity to promote sustainability and conservation efforts. Through initiatives like the wild tree planting campaign, the Environment Authority is working towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future for Dhofar Governorate and beyond.

Overall, the campaign to plant 10,000 wild trees in Dhofar Governorate demonstrates the commitment of the Environment Authority and its partners to protect and preserve the natural environment of the region. By focusing on planting native species, increasing vegetation cover, and supporting biodiversity, the initiative contributes to the overall health and sustainability of the ecosystem. With plans to plant a total of 60,000 wild trees in the area, the campaign is a significant step towards achieving the national goal of planting 10 million trees.
