Doha: The Public Prosecution in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a medical practitioner to five years in prison along with a fine of nearly $27,000 after appearing on a surveillance video assaulting 11 newborn babies, according to Al Arabiya news.
The female practitioner, whose name was not revealed, worked at a newborn nursery department where she “violently hit an infant’s face three times” after having aggressively handled another baby before it.
The medical practitioner then went on to violently handle more infants in the nursery where she continued “intentionally committing a felony against newborns”.
The woman in question was reported to have said that her violent treatment of the newborns was the result of “work-related stress”.
The practitioner’s sentence of five years in jail and 100,000 Saudi riyals was appealed by the Public Prosecution in hopes of landing an even harsher punishment against her for “her heinous crimes against helpless infants”.
