The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called for a comprehensive solution to the crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, unity, and the preservation of national institutions. The Deputy Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN in Geneva, Jowhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, delivered the statement on behalf of the GCC during the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The GCC urged Sudanese parties to calm the situation and prevent the collapse of state institutions to avoid further conflicts and confrontations.

The GCC reiterated the importance of both sides of the Sudanese conflict committing to ending the crisis as outlined in the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023, and the declaration on a short-term ceasefire agreement and humanitarian arrangements signed on May 20, 2023. The council stressed the need to protect civilians and ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and human rights law. Additionally, the GCC referenced UN Security Council Resolution 2,724, which calls for unimpeded access to humanitarian aid in Sudan.

Furthermore, the GCC urged the Sudanese government and the Rapid Support Forces to engage with crisis resolution initiatives, including the Jeddah platform and neighboring countries. The council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Sudanese people by providing humanitarian aid and contributing to alleviating their suffering. The GCC emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation to prevent further escalation of conflicts in Sudan and preserve the stability of the region.

In light of the ongoing crisis in Sudan, the GCC’s call for a comprehensive solution reflects the council’s commitment to peace and stability in the region. By urging Sudanese parties to prioritize dialogue and unity, the GCC aims to prevent the collapse of national state institutions and avoid further conflicts and confrontations. The council’s emphasis on compliance with international humanitarian law and human rights law highlights the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring access to humanitarian aid in Sudan.

The GCC’s reference to UN Security Council Resolution 2,724 demonstrates the council’s support for international efforts to address the crisis in Sudan. By calling on the Sudanese government and the Rapid Support Forces to engage with crisis resolution initiatives, the GCC aims to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The council’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people reinforces its dedication to alleviating their suffering and supporting their well-being.

Overall, the GCC’s statement on the crisis in Sudan underscores the council’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region. By calling for dialogue, unity, and the preservation of national institutions, the council seeks to prevent further escalation of conflicts and confrontations in Sudan. Through its support for humanitarian aid and crisis resolution initiatives, the GCC reaffirms its commitment to standing by the Sudanese people and contributing to efforts to address the crisis in the country.
