The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, recently spoke out on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, citing the need for the international community to address the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people at the hands of Israeli racial discrimination. Albudaiwi emphasized the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip where Palestinians face persecution, discrimination, and racial segregation on a daily basis. He called attention to the importance of upholding human rights and international law in the face of such violations.

Albudaiwi highlighted the commitment of GCC member states to the principles outlined in the Declaration of Human Rights of the Cooperation Council, which aims to ensure equality and nondiscrimination based on factors such as origin, sex, religion, language, and color. He underscored the belief of GCC leaders in the dignity of all human beings and their dedication to upholding Islamic law and international human rights standards.

The Secretary General referenced the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which all GCC member states have ratified, as a key instrument in shaping legislative frameworks aimed at combating racial discrimination and promoting a culture of tolerance, coexistence, justice, and equality within their societies. He lauded the role played by GCC countries in fostering lasting peace based on principles of equality and non-discrimination, while urging the international community to prioritize the elimination of all forms of discrimination globally.

Albudaiwi’s statement serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the Palestinian people and the importance of international solidarity and action in addressing racial discrimination and human rights violations. By highlighting the commitments of GCC member states to combatting discrimination and promoting equality, he emphasized the role that regional cooperation and adherence to international conventions can play in addressing such critical issues.

As the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, it is crucial for all nations and stakeholders to renew their efforts in combatting discrimination, promoting tolerance, and upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals. The call to action made by the GCC Secretary General serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in creating a more just and inclusive world for future generations.
