In celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace, the organization “This is Bahrain” recently hosted an event under the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace” at the Cultural Hall in Manama. The event, held on September 21, 2024, aimed to emphasize the importance of peace in today’s world and highlight Bahrain’s commitment to peaceful coexistence. In her keynote speech, Miss Betsy B. Mathieson, Chairperson of “This is Bahrain,” welcomed distinguished guests and attendees from various faiths and cultures, highlighting Bahrain’s spirit of mutual respect and love. She noted Bahrain’s emphasis on peace in its national anthem and expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his commitment to peaceful coexistence through various initiatives.

Mathieson also thanked His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for supporting the numerous non-governmental organizations in Bahrain, as well as Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa for her efforts in advancing women and children’s development. Reflecting on the event’s theme, Mathieson posed questions about achieving and maintaining peace, citing Nelson Mandela’s words on creating an environment where all can flourish irrespective of differences. She commended Bahrain for its centuries-long culture of peace, calling on the audience to work together to protect and strengthen this culture.

The event featured performances from various cultural groups, including Father Richard Fermer, Dean of Saint Christopher’s Cathedral, the YMCA Choir, and the Al Hidd Fajeiri Band, among others. Mathieson announced the launch of the “This Is Bahrain Talent Show,” a platform to celebrate musicians, singers, choirs, and performers from diverse communities. In her concluding remarks, Mathieson quoted His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s words from the Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration, emphasizing the role of faith in guiding the path to peace.

Overall, the event organized by “This is Bahrain” served as a platform to promote peace and highlight Bahrain’s dedication to peaceful coexistence. With a focus on cultivating a culture of peace, the event underscored the importance of working together to maintain harmony and understanding among diverse communities. Through performances and announcements like the “This Is Bahrain Talent Show,” the organization aimed to showcase the talents and unity present in Bahrain’s cultural landscape. Upholding the values of respect, compassion, and hospitality, the event participants and attendees reiterated their commitment to fostering a culture of peace that transcends boundaries and celebrates diversity. As Bahrain continues to champion peaceful coexistence, events like these serve as a reminder of the nation’s enduring legacy of harmony and tolerance.
