The Embassy of India in Bahrain recently held its monthly Open House, led by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vinod Kurian Jacob, on December 27, 2024. The event saw participation from the Embassy’s Community Welfare team, Consular team, and panel lawyers, where approximately 30 cases were received in languages such as English, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. The Open House commenced with a moment of silence in honor of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who had passed away the day before.
During the Open House, Ambassador Jacob expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the Bahrain authorities for their recent release of around 30 Indian prisoners under a Royal pardon issued on December 16, 2024. This brought the total number of Indians released under Royal Pardon in 2024 to nearly 160. The attendees were also updated on the repatriation of 28 Indian fishermen whose sentence was reduced from six months to three months, with three fishermen expected to return home soon.
A significant highlight of the Open House was the successful resolution of a long-pending case involving an Indian national who had been stranded for over 30 years. This individual was issued a travel document and successfully repatriated with the Embassy’s assistance. The event was described as productive, interactive, and solemn, with various grievances and issues of the Indian community in Bahrain being addressed and resolved. Ambassador Jacob thanked all the Indian associations and community members for their active participation in the Open House.
