A delegation from Bahrain recently attended the “Sixteenth Workshop of Parliamentary Scholars and Parliamentarians” at Wroxton College in the United Kingdom. The delegation emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to promoting international cooperation in all its forms, stressing the importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and utilizing artificial intelligence in parliamentary activities. The workshop, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Centre for Legislative Studies at the University of Hull, took place from 27 to 28 July. The Bahraini Parliamentary Group delegation was led by HE Leena Habib Kassim and included MP Hassan Ebrahim Hassan.
Leena Kassim, leading the delegation, highlighted the crucial role of international cooperation in legislative work, emphasizing the importance of building strong relationships between national parliaments based on mutual respect and collaboration. She commended the efforts of parliamentary and academic institutions in holding joint meetings, which allow for the exchange of parliamentary experiences and discussions on globally important issues. These meetings support specialized legislative research and positively impact the performance of legislators. Kassim also noted the active role that parliaments play on the international stage through visits, meetings, workshops, and parliamentary sessions organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union to promote parliamentary diplomacy and exchange expertise.
MP Hassan Ebrahim Hassan, a member of the delegation, highlighted Bahrain’s significant progress in parliamentary diplomacy regionally and globally. He credited this progress to the continuous support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who is dedicated to the nation’s advancement and enhanced stature. Bahraini diplomacy, according to Hassan, focuses on building cooperation with various Arab and international parliaments to gain more experience and support legislative work. Additionally, Bahrain emphasizes the importance of advancing parliamentary work through the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence to achieve the best outcomes and greater accomplishments in all areas.
The delegation from Bahrain also discussed the interest shown by academics and researchers in Bahrain’s legislative experience during the workshop sessions. They acknowledged the valuable academic research and studies on parliamentary matters discussed at the workshop, highlighting the importance of these discussions in promoting parliamentary diplomacy and exchange of expertise among parliamentarians.
