In the aftermath of a devastating fire that destroyed the historic Old Manama Souq in Bahrain, Member of Parliament Jameel Mulla Hassan has urged the government to take immediate action to rebuild this iconic marketplace. The fire caused extensive damage to many commercial shops in the souq, leaving the shop owners who depended on it for their livelihood in a difficult situation. Hassan emphasized that the financial and emotional losses suffered by the shop owners are significant, especially during the preparations for Eid al-Adha. The affected families are now without their primary source of income, and the government must intervene promptly to support and compensate them.

MP Hassan pointed out that 25 commercial units were completely destroyed, with many neighboring shops also sustaining partial damage, highlighting the urgency for the government to act swiftly to address the situation. He also called for the reconstruction of the Old Manama Souq to be done in a way that preserves Bahrain’s authentic national identity and transforms it into a premier tourist destination for Gulf citizens and visitors worldwide. Hassan stressed the importance of preserving this historic landmark, which holds significant cultural and touristic value in Bahrain’s modern history.

The parliamentarian emphasized the need to rebuild the Old Manama Souq with Bahrain’s original identity in mind, making it a magnet for tourists from the Gulf region and around the world. This, he believes, is a crucial step in preserving an important tourism and cultural heritage site in Bahrain’s history. The Old Manama Souq has been a cherished landmark in the heart of Bahrain’s capital for many years, with its rich history and architectural charm. The call for its swift reconstruction and preservation reflects the desire to maintain the nation’s cultural legacy and provide support to the affected citizens who rely on it for their livelihood.

The reconstruction of the Old Manama Souq presents an opportunity for Bahrain to showcase its unique cultural heritage and attract tourists to the historic marketplace. By preserving its original identity and historical significance, the souq can become a key tourist destination in the region, benefiting both the local economy and the country’s tourism industry. The government’s swift action in supporting the affected shop owners and rebuilding the souq in a way that honors Bahrain’s heritage is essential for maintaining the nation’s cultural legacy and ensuring that the iconic marketplace continues to thrive in the future.

In conclusion, the devastating fire that ravaged the Old Manama Souq has highlighted the urgent need for the government to take decisive action to rebuild and preserve this iconic marketplace. The support and compensation provided to the affected shop owners are crucial for helping them recover from their financial and emotional losses. By rebuilding the souq in a way that honors Bahrain’s original identity and cultural heritage, the government can transform it into a premier tourist destination and ensure that it remains a cherished landmark in the heart of the capital. The preservation of the Old Manama Souq is not only important for Bahrain’s tourism industry but also for the affected citizens who rely on it for their livelihood.
