The Ministry of Labour in Bahrain is looking to recognize citizens working in high-risk professions through the ‘For You’ initiative as part of the national ‘Bahrainouna’ plan. Engineer Mustafa Aqeel Al Shaikh, Director of the Ministry’s Inspection and Safety Department, highlighted the Ministry’s appreciation for those engaged in demanding fields. The Ministry aims to honor 20 citizens selected by their employers in a special ceremony scheduled for December. Nominations for the programme are open until December 7, 2024, with a focus on acknowledging Bahrain’s workforce in hazardous roles in the private sector.
The ‘For You’ initiative is part of The National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Citizenship (Bahrainouna). It is the second wave of the programme, aimed at recognizing and appreciating citizens working in high-risk professions. The initiative is an opportunity for private sector employers to nominate employees who meet the programme’s eligibility criteria. Nominations can be submitted through an online platform provided by the Ministry of Labour.
Eligibility for nominations is based on the safety and health standards outlined in Ministerial Order No. (8) of 2013. High-risk professions include tasks such as working at heights, handling dangerous chemicals, operating high-pressure equipment or high-voltage power, and working in extreme conditions such as heat, noise, vibration, or radiation. The scope also includes tasks involving radioactive substances, carcinogens, machinery with exposed parts, work in confined spaces, professional diving, excavation and demolition, mining, lifting operations, and healthcare roles with virus exposure risks.
Engineer Mustafa Aqeel Al Shaikh emphasized the importance of recognizing citizens working in high-risk professions and their contribution to the workforce in Bahrain. The Ministry’s initiative aims to acknowledge their dedication, hard work, and commitment to safety and health standards in the workplace. By honoring these individuals, the Ministry hopes to highlight the value of citizenship and promote a sense of belonging to the nation among the workforce in Bahrain.
Private sector employers are encouraged to participate in the nomination process and recognize their employees who work in high-risk professions. The Ministry’s ‘For You’ initiative provides a platform for employers to showcase their appreciation for the dedication and hard work of their employees in demanding fields. Through this programme, the Ministry aims to create a culture of recognition and appreciation for citizens working in challenging roles and promoting a safe and healthy work environment in Bahrain.
Overall, the Ministry of Labour’s initiative to honor citizens working in high-risk professions through the ‘For You’ programme is a commendable effort to recognize the dedication and hard work of individuals in demanding fields. By acknowledging their contribution to the workforce and promoting safety and health standards in the workplace, the Ministry aims to foster a culture of appreciation and respect for those working in challenging conditions.
