Members of Parliament propose a national initiative for repairing low-income housing

A group of Members of Parliament (MPs) in Bahrain have put forth a proposal to establish a national platform dedicated to identifying and facilitating the repair of homes owned by low-income citizens. Spearheaded by MPs Basma Mubarak, Mamdouh Al Saleh, Dr. Mahdi Al Showaikh, Abdulnabi Salman, and Hanan Fardan, the proposal aims to tackle the pressing issue of home repairs among the less fortunate population in the country. The MPs argue that timely and minor repairs can help extend the lifespan of these homes at a lower cost, preventing the need for extensive and expensive repairs in the future.

The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal sheds light on the challenges faced by low-income families residing in deteriorating or at-risk homes. It emphasizes the importance of preserving older properties not only for their practical benefits but also for their cultural significance in maintaining Bahrain’s unique architectural character and rich Islamic heritage.
