The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has been cracking down on illegal labor practices in the country. In just one week in July 2024, they conducted 408 inspection campaigns and visits, resulting in the apprehension of 58 undocumented workers and the deportation of 168 individuals who violated labor regulations. These inspections revealed various violations related to the LMRA Law and the Bahrain Residence Law, leading to legal action being taken against those found in breach of the regulations.
During the inspections, the LMRA visited 394 commercial establishments across all governorates and conducted 14 joint inspection campaigns in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and other government agencies. This included 10 campaigns in the Capital Governorate, one each in Muharraq and the Northern Governorate, and two in the Southern Governorate. The LMRA emphasized its ongoing coordination with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns across all governorates in order to combat illegal labor practices effectively.
The LMRA highlighted the importance of community members supporting the government’s efforts to combat illegal labor practices and protect the community as a whole. They encouraged individuals to report any complaints related to labor market violations and illegal labor through various channels, including the dedicated electronic form on the LMRA website, the national suggestion and complaint system (Tawasul), or by contacting the LMRA call center. By working together with the community, the LMRA aims to create a safer and more regulated labor market in Bahrain.
It is crucial for businesses in Bahrain to comply with labor regulations and ensure that their employees are documented and legal. By conducting regular inspections and taking legal action against violators, the LMRA is sending a strong message to both employers and employees that illegal labor practices will not be tolerated. This not only protects the rights of workers but also helps to maintain a fair and competitive labor market in Bahrain.
The collaboration between the LMRA and other government agencies, such as the Ministry of Interior and the security directorates, is essential in combating illegal labor practices effectively. By working together and sharing resources, these agencies can cover more ground and identify violations more efficiently. This coordinated approach is key to tackling the issue of illegal labor practices and ensuring that all businesses in Bahrain operate within the legal framework.
Overall, the efforts of the LMRA to combat illegal labor practices in Bahrain are commendable and necessary to maintain a regulated and fair labor market in the country. By taking a proactive stance through regular inspections and encouraging community involvement, the LMRA is making significant progress in cracking down on illegal labor practices and protecting the rights of workers. It is essential for businesses and individuals in Bahrain to support these efforts and report any violations to ensure a level playing field for all in the labor market.
