His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has recently promoted Brigadier General Bassam Mohammed Khamis Al Maraj to the rank of Major General. This promotion comes with an additional appointment as the President of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), which will be effective from 1st August 2024. The appointment was made in accordance with Decree (28) of 2024 issued by HM King.

As a highly respected figure within Bahrain’s military and intelligence community, Major General Al Maraj brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. His new role as the President of the NIA will see him leading the agency in its mission to safeguard the security and interests of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
