The Indian Club in Bahrain is gearing up to celebrate the ‘Onam Festival 2024’, a week-long event filled with cultural activities, traditional sports, and exciting competitions. The festival will take place from September 26th to October 4th, showcasing the rich heritage of Kerala. The grand opening will be on September 26th, followed by various competitions and performances throughout the week.
The festivities will kick off with an official inauguration on Thursday, September 26th, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the ‘Onapudava’ competition and a cinematic dance performance. The following day, September 27th, will see a ‘Payasam’ competition, traditional drumming competition, and a tug-of-war contest. On Saturday, September 28th, there will be a ‘Thiruvathira’ competition and an ‘Onappattu’ competition.
As the celebration continues into the next week, highlights include the ‘Ona Chanda’ on October 3rd and a vibrant ‘Ghoshayatra’ on October 4th, showcasing Kerala’s traditional folklore and costumes. The grand finale will be on October 11th with the famous ‘Onasadhya’ feast, serving 2,500 patrons, members, and guests with 29 traditional dishes prepared on-site and served on banana leaves.
Participants are encouraged to register for the various competitions with deadlines ranging from September 24 to October 1. For those interested in the ‘Onapudava’ competition, registration closes on September 24 and can be contacted through the coordinators Josmi, Shreeja, or Togi Mathew. The ‘Payasam’ competition will take place on September 27th, offering participants a chance to showcase their culinary skills and creativity.
