The recent fire that devastated Manama’s Old Souq has caused millions of dinars in damage and has left numerous businesses in a state of distress. Calls are mounting for the government to compensate affected shop owners, with MP Ahmed Qarata leading efforts to secure financial support for those who have lost their source of income. The Old Souq Development Committee is set to meet to assess the damage and present a detailed report to the government.

Mahmood Al Namilty, Vice Chairman of the Manama Souq Development Committee, emphasized the need for comprehensive compensation, including financial support, waiving of outstanding bills, and exemption from fees until businesses can resume operations. He stressed the importance of supporting both shop owners and their employees who have been impacted by the fire. Riyadh Al Mahroos, another committee member, echoed the need for immediate support and highlighted the upcoming meeting as crucial in finding solutions and providing assistance.

MP Ahmed Al Saloom, head of the Strategic Thinking Bloc, called for stringent building inspections following the fire to ensure electrical safety and prevent future tragedies. He emphasized the urgency of action, stating that Manama is a “ticking time bomb” and that immediate steps need to be taken to avoid further disasters. Al Saloom also highlighted the importance of comprehensive inspections focusing on safety conditions, not just illegal workers and expired IDs.

The recent fire has underscored the need for urgent action to improve safety standards and provide support to those affected by the tragedy. With over 70 properties damaged, estimates exceeding 10 million dinars, including historical buildings dating back over a century, the situation remains dire for many shop owners and residents of the Old Souq. It is crucial for the government to address these concerns and ensure the well-being of those impacted by the fire.

As the situation unfolds, it is essential for the government to take immediate action to address the financial burdens faced by shop owners who have lost their source of income. The need for comprehensive compensation, including financial support and relief from bills, is paramount to help businesses resume operations. The upcoming meeting of the Old Souq Development Committee will be crucial in finding solutions and providing assistance to those affected by the fire, and it is important for the government to act swiftly in providing support to these individuals and businesses.

In conclusion, the recent fire at Manama’s Old Souq has highlighted the urgent need for improved safety standards and support for those impacted by the tragedy. With millions of dinars in damage and numerous businesses affected, it is imperative for the government to provide comprehensive compensation to shop owners and residents in order to help them recover and rebuild. Immediate action is needed to prevent future disasters and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in densely populated areas like Manama’s Old Souq.
