Online government payments in Bahrain have seen a significant increase in the first quarter of 2024, reaching a total of 159 million dinars. This highlights a growing trend towards digital transactions, with a total of 667 million dinars recorded in 2023. These figures, released by the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), demonstrate the increasing reliance on digital channels for accessing government services.
The breakdown of the figures reveals that over 600,000 financial transactions were processed through various government channels in the first quarter alone. January emerged as the busiest month, with 213,500 transactions amounting to 59.7 million dinars. March closely followed with 189,400 transactions worth 49.7 million dinars, while February saw 208,400 transactions totaling 49.6 million dinars. This data showcases the consistent use of digital platforms for financial transactions throughout the quarter.
In addition to online payments, the Government Services Contact Center also reported a high volume of calls in the first quarter of 2024. A total of 42,200 calls were handled, with January accounting for 14,600 calls, February with 14,700 calls, and March receiving 12,800 calls. This further emphasizes the shift towards digital means for accessing government services, as individuals seek more efficient and accessible ways to interact with public institutions.
