The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture in Bahrain has launched a tender to conduct a thorough inventory of the country’s groundwater wells. This initiative aims to update existing data and integrate technical information into software used by the Local Agricultural Production Directorate. The goal is to identify and catalogue all groundwater wells, gather technical data related to each well, such as depth, water quality, and location coordinates, and ensure the sustainable management of groundwater reserves.

The comprehensive inventory of groundwater wells in Bahrain is crucial for supporting agricultural productivity and environmental conservation efforts. By collecting essential technical data on each well, the nation can better manage its groundwater resources and prevent depletion. This initiative will also help in monitoring the quality of groundwater and ensuring that it remains safe for consumption and agricultural use.

The closing date for receiving bids for the inventory project is June 5th, 2024. Interested bidders must submit a mandatory initial bond of BD1,000. The ministry will offer a 12-month contract to the successful bidder, who will be responsible for updating and maintaining the inventory of groundwater wells across Bahrain. This project is essential for enhancing the management of groundwater resources and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural practices in the country.

According to a previous report by The Daily Tribune, there are a total of 2,660 unmonitored wells in the Kingdom. Conducting a comprehensive inventory of groundwater wells will help in identifying and monitoring these unmonitored wells, ensuring that they are properly managed and maintained. By integrating technical information into the LAPD software, the ministry can streamline the monitoring and management of groundwater wells, making it easier to track and analyze data related to groundwater reserves.

The inventory project is a significant step towards ensuring the long-term sustainability of groundwater resources in Bahrain. By updating and cataloguing all groundwater wells in the country, the ministry can better understand and manage its water reserves, protect the environment, and support agricultural activities. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable resource management, promoting the responsible use of groundwater for the benefit of both present and future generations.

In conclusion, the comprehensive inventory of groundwater wells in Bahrain will play a crucial role in supporting agricultural productivity, environmental conservation, and sustainable resource management. By updating existing data and integrating technical information into software used by the LAPD, the ministry aims to ensure the sustainable management of groundwater reserves. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible resource management, setting a precedent for other countries to follow in safeguarding their groundwater resources for future generations.
