Residents of the Northern Governorate are facing frustration due to inadequate waste disposal facilities, leading to a messy situation with stray dogs scavenging through rubbish. With just one dumpster for every 16 homes, discussions about this issue have become prominent. The Director-General of the Northern Governorate Municipality, Lamya Al Fadhala, attributed the problem to the increasing population density and urban development, causing the cleaning company to exceed the acceptable limit for dumpsters. In response to Municipal Council member Zainab Al Durazi’s inquiries, Al Fadhala mentioned ongoing discussions with the company to address the matter.

An inventory of usable and unusable dumpsters is currently being conducted to remove damaged units and replace them with new ones. Al Fadhala also highlighted plans to introduce colour-coded garbage containers for sorting different types of waste, as well as initiatives to promote recycling and protect the environment by reducing organic and inorganic waste. The municipality aims to identify specific locations for recycling and collaborate with the council to raise awareness of this initiative. Al Durazi emphasized the urgent need for more dumpsters in the twelfth district, where seven complexes and 25 new plots lack proper waste disposal options. In an area with 800 housing units, there are only six dumpsters available, illustrating the severe shortage.

The lack of dumpsters poses challenges for residents to adhere to cleanliness laws as the presence of stray dogs complicates matters by tearing open rubbish bags and delaying the cleaning process. Al Durazi stressed the importance of promptly resolving the issue by providing a sufficient number of dumpsters and determining suitable locations for new additions. She highlighted the district’s need for at least 500 dumpsters to meet the high demand for waste disposal solutions. The municipality’s efforts to address the waste disposal issue include discussions with the cleaning company, conducting an inventory of dumpsters, and implementing plans for colour-coded garbage containers and recycling initiatives.

The Director-General of the Northern Governorate Municipality, Lamya Al Fadhala, emphasized the importance of addressing the waste disposal challenges faced by residents in the Northern Governorate. She acknowledged the impact of population density and urban development on the availability of dumpsters and stressed the need for collaborative efforts to find sustainable solutions. Al Fadhala’s plans include introducing colour-coded garbage containers for sorting waste and promoting recycling to minimize environmental impact. Municipal Council member Zainab Al Durazi echoed the urgency of the situation in the twelfth district, where inadequate waste disposal facilities hinder residents’ ability to maintain cleanliness.

In conclusion, the issue of inadequate waste disposal facilities in the Northern Governorate has prompted discussions among residents, municipal officials, and council members. The shortage of dumpsters, compounded by the presence of stray dogs, has created a messy situation that requires immediate attention. Collaborative efforts between the municipality, cleaning company, and council members are essential to address the challenges and provide sustainable waste disposal solutions. By implementing initiatives such as colour-coded garbage containers and promoting recycling, the municipality aims to mitigate the environmental impact of waste and improve cleanliness in the community. Residents are hopeful that prompt action will lead to a resolution of the waste disposal issue and a cleaner, more sustainable environment for all.
