BTEA Discovers 40 Violating Tourism Agencies and Notifies Offenders of Severe Legal Ramifications

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has recently cracked down on over 40 offices engaging in unlicensed travel and tourism reservations activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This action is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to regulate the tourism and travel sector and ensure that all businesses operating within it are in compliance with the necessary regulations. Violating offices have been found to be using different addresses or advertising on social media without obtaining the required licenses. The owners of these offices are currently being referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action as administrative procedures are being finalized.

The BTEA, as the official body overseeing travel and tourism offices in Bahrain, is committed to addressing all complaints and cases related to violations in the sector. The Authority is working in collaboration with other relevant government bodies to ensure that applicable laws and regulations are effectively implemented. It is crucial for citizens and residents to verify the existence of a tourism license for any tourism offices they may be considering doing business with. Tourism reservations should only be made with licensed entities, as operating without a license can result in severe consequences for violating the law.

In order to avoid legal repercussions, the BTEA is urging owners of unlicensed offices to refrain from engaging in reservations and travel activities until they have completed all necessary procedures outlined in Ministerial Resolution No. 36 of 2019. This includes having a qualified office manager with relevant experience, as well as providing the required equipment and devices to operate legally within the tourism and travel sector. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in administrative fines of up to BD 2,500, in addition to potential referral to the Public Prosecution if a violation is confirmed.

It is essential for all tourism offices and companies in Bahrain to adhere to the laws and regulations set forth by the BTEA and other governing authorities. By obtaining the necessary licenses and ensuring compliance with all legal requirements, businesses can operate within the sector without fear of facing penalties or legal action. The Authority’s crackdown on unlicensed offices serves as a reminder to all businesses in the tourism and travel sector to comply with regulations to protect the interests of consumers and maintain the integrity of the industry.
