Stc, a leading digital enabler in Saudi Arabia and the region, has recently announced the inauguration of two important technological projects aimed at strengthening Bahrain’s position as a regional digital hub. The projects, the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system and the Data Center Park, have been developed with a US$300 million investment and are aligned with the company’s strategy to expand its international footprint and support Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and net-zero carbon 2060 commitment.

The 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system is part of the 2Africa network, one of the world’s longest subsea cable networks, spanning 45,000 km from Bahrain across the Arabian Gulf, India, Pakistan, and onward to Africa and Europe. With an impressive capacity of 180 terabits per second, this cable system will play a crucial role in advancing digital transformation and global connectivity in Bahrain and the region. On the other hand, the Data Center Park, currently under construction in the Al Qurain area, is designed to cater to the needs of content providers and global enterprises requiring high computing power, with a potential to scale up to 60 megawatts of IT load.

These projects are in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and strengthen the ICT sector, as well as the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. The inauguration of the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system and the Data Center Park reflects stc’s commitment to supporting Bahrain’s vision for economic growth and sustainability. The ceremony announcing the projects was attended by Prince Mohammed K. A. Al Faisal, stc Group Chairman, along with representatives from government entities and various organizations.

Overall, the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system and the Data Center Park represent a significant step towards achieving Bahrain’s goal of becoming a regional digital hub, as well as supporting the country’s efforts towards economic diversification and sustainability. With a focus on advanced technology and innovative solutions, stc is playing a key role in driving digital transformation and global connectivity in Bahrain and beyond. These projects will empower key business sectors and contribute to the growth of the ICT industry in the region.

The strategic importance of the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system and the Data Center Park cannot be understated, as they will not only enhance Bahrain’s digital infrastructure but also attract investment and stimulate economic growth in the country. With a focus on sustainability and technological innovation, stc’s investment in these projects demonstrates its long-term commitment to Bahrain’s development as a regional digital hub. As the projects continue to progress and expand their capabilities, they will further solidify Bahrain’s position as a leading destination for digital investment and technological advancement in the region.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system and the Data Center Park by stc marks a significant milestone in Bahrain’s journey towards becoming a regional digital hub. These projects showcase the company’s dedication to supporting Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and sustainability goals, as well as driving digital transformation and global connectivity in the region. As Bahrain continues to strengthen its position as a digital powerhouse, projects like these will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the country’s economy and ICT sector.
