Bahrain Post, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture, has released commemorative postage stamps celebrating the centennial of the first municipal council elections in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The stamps feature a historical image of the original municipal council building in Manama and are priced at 1 Bahraini dinar for a first-day cover and 5 dinars for a sheet of ten. They are available for purchase at various Bahrain Post branches across the country and will be on sale during regular business hours from Saturday to Thursday.

This latest release of commemorative stamps by Bahrain Post marks the 100th anniversary of the 1920 municipal council elections in Bahrain, which was a significant moment in the country’s history. The late Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa served as the first president of the municipal council, followed by Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa. During this period, the council’s membership expanded from eight to twenty members to ensure a quorum and strengthen decision-making.

The introduction of elections for council members during this era was a pioneering step in Bahrain’s electoral process. Ten members were elected by the people, while the government appointed the remaining ten. This marked a significant development in the governance and decision-making processes in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The commemorative stamps serve as a tribute to this historic moment and honor the contributions of those who served on the municipal council during this time.

The release of the commemorative postage stamps is a part of Bahrain Post’s tradition of celebrating and commemorating important events in the country’s history. By immortalizing the 1920 municipal council elections through these stamps, Bahrain Post aims to educate the public about the significance of this event and the role it played in shaping the governance and democracy in Bahrain. The stamps showcase the original municipal council building in Manama, serving as a visual representation of the historical importance of the elections.

The availability of the stamps for purchase at various Bahrain Post branches across the country provides the public with the opportunity to own a piece of history and celebrate the centennial of the municipal council elections. By making the stamps accessible to the public, Bahrain Post aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and honoring the country’s rich history and heritage. The stamps can be purchased at locations such as the Bahrain National Museum, Muharraq, Al Hidd, and other branches, allowing individuals to participate in the celebration of this milestone anniversary.

In conclusion, the release of commemorative postage stamps by Bahrain Post celebrating the centennial of the first municipal council elections in Bahrain is a testament to the country’s rich history and democratic progress. The stamps pay tribute to the individuals who played a pivotal role in the governance of Bahrain during the early 20th century and serve as a reminder of the importance of democratic processes in shaping a nation. By making these stamps available for purchase, Bahrain Post gives the public an opportunity to engage with and celebrate the country’s history, ensuring that the legacy of the 1920 municipal council elections lives on for future generations to appreciate and learn from.
