Bahrain continues to solidify its position as a global leader in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, ranking 5th globally and 3rd in the Arab world in the 2024 ICT Development Index (IDI) published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This achievement highlights Bahrain’s commitment to digital advancement and surpasses the global average score with an impressive 97.5 points. The country’s comprehensive communications, information technology, and digital economy sector strategy (2022-2026) serves as a roadmap for its continued success in becoming a leading ICT nation.

His Excellency Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, attributes Bahrain’s success to the unwavering support of the government, aligning with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications is dedicated to advancing the ICT sector further, in line with the objectives outlined in the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan from 2023 to 2026. Their continuous support paves the way for Bahrain to achieve its ambitious vision of developing an advanced, sustainable economy that benefits both the Kingdom and its citizens.

Bahrain’s efforts in promoting digital transformation across various economic sectors have propelled the country to the top ranks in the ICT Development Index. This focus on digitalization contributes significantly to Bahrain’s sustainable development and solidifies its leadership in the ICT infrastructure sector, regionally and internationally. The country aims to be among the top 10 globally in the ICT sector, setting an example for achieving sustainable development and comprehensive digital transformation. The positive results reflect Bahrain’s economic leadership and technological advancements, inspiring further progress and development in this vital sector.

The Minister extends his gratitude to all those involved in this achievement, including the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and telecommunications companies, whose dedication has enhanced technological development, infrastructure, competitiveness, and service quality in Bahrain. The ICT Development Index by the ITU serves as a crucial indicator for measuring progress in the ICT sector globally, with Bahrain’s remarkable performance setting a benchmark for other nations seeking excellence in the digital realm. Bahrain’s consistent efforts and focus on digital advancement continue to position it as a model for success in the ICT sector, driving sustainable development and comprehensive digital transformation.
