A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Sohar Port and Freezone for a project of recycling, treatment and disposal of various industrial wastes generated by diverse industries operating in Oman. The project, carried out by Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC) with an investment value of $3.5 million (OMR1.3 million) on a total area of 10,000 square meters, is strategically located within the Sohar Freezone. The aim of the project is to enhance sustainable development and promote the circular economy, solidifying Sohar Freezone as a hub for innovative solutions in waste management.

The new facility will utilize advanced, eco-friendly technology to minimize carbon emissions and incorporate leading-edge pollution control equipment to safely treat industrial waste such as oil sludge, sludge, and rubber. Key outputs include heavy oil for slow-moving machinery and low-contamination carbon dust for use in cement manufacturing or road construction. The initial capacity of the facility is 40 tons per day, set to double to 80 tons per day within one year. This initiative highlights the commitment of Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC) to advancing sustainable practices and pioneering the circular economy.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, the Governor of North Al Batinah, emphasized the importance of this project in driving environmental stewardship and economic growth in the region. Shiv Sood, Co-Owner of Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC), expressed the significance of partnering with Sohar Freezone to align their commitment to advancing sustainable practices and the circular economy. This milestone not only signifies leadership in innovative waste management but also underscores the shared vision for a future where Sohar Freezone continues to drive environmental stewardship and economic growth.

Omar Al Mahrizi, CEO of Sohar Freezone and DCEO of Sohar Port, emphasized the pivotal role that the new facility plays in promoting a circular economy. By incorporating advanced technology and adhering to rigorous environmental standards, the waste management capabilities of Sohar Freezone are enhanced, contributing to Oman Vision 2040’s circular economy objectives. The groundbreaking ceremony of Elite’s Hazardous Waste facility at Sohar Freezone marks a major step in their sustainability commitment and signifies the seventh circular economy project at Sohar Port & Freezone, further diversifying their cluster to include different fields such as industrial and marine waste management, solidifying Sohar Freezone as a top choice for industries dedicated to the circular economy.
