Google Photos is revolutionizing image search with new upgrades to its search functionality. Now, users can enter more natural and descriptive queries to quickly find specific images, such as “Gigi Hadid playing with daughter.” The enhanced search experience allows users to sort results by date or relevance, making image retrieval faster and more accurate. This feature is currently available in English for Android and iOS users, with plans to expand to other languages in the future.

Additionally, select users in the US are gaining early access to a new feature called ‘Ask Photos.’ This feature, available through Google Labs for waitlisted users, utilizes Gemini AI to understand the context of users’ photo collections. Users can ask questions like “When did we eat at the airport in Delhi?” and ‘Ask Photos’ will provide relevant details based on the photos’ context, such as people, places, and activities depicted. This AI-driven feature functions like a chatbot, offering a conversational interface for users to refine their queries and receive personalized responses.

‘Ask Photos’ can summarize trip highlights, suggest the best photos from specific events, and more, all powered by Gemini’s advanced AI models. Google ensures privacy by disconnecting users’ Google Accounts from the queries reviewed by human reviewers for refinement. Responses from ‘Ask Photos’ are mostly not reviewed by humans unless feedback is provided, or cases of abuse or harm need to be addressed. This new feature aims to provide users with a more personalized and efficient image search experience, leveraging innovative AI technology.
