Google has begun rolling out Gemini to the Google TV Streamer, replacing Google Assistant. This change enables users to interact with their TV using more natural voice commands. The update, available to users aged 18 and older, is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.

The introduction of Gemini on the Google TV Streamer is part of a broader effort by Google to integrate its AI assistant across various devices and platforms. According to the company, Gemini offers more advanced capabilities than its predecessor, allowing users to ask complex questions and receive relevant responses.

Enhanced Voice Commands with Gemini

With Gemini, users can now ask their TV questions like, “I like dramas but my wife likes comedies. What’s a movie we can watch together?” or “What happened at the end of Outlander last season?” This functionality extends beyond entertainment, enabling users to inquire about various topics, much like they would with Gemini on their mobile device.

For instance, users can ask Gemini to “Explain why volcanoes erupt to my third grader” or seek guidance on DIY projects and recipes through YouTube videos. To access Gemini on the Google TV Streamer, users need to press the microphone button on their remote control.

Expansion of Gemini on Google TV Devices

The rollout of Gemini is not limited to the Google TV Streamer. In September, Google announced that it would be introducing Gemini on select TCL devices. Later this year, Gemini is expected to be available on 2025 models from Hisense and TCL, including the U7, U8, UX, QM7K, QM8K, and X11K series.

Additionally, Gemini is already available on the Walmart Onn 4K Pro streaming device. This expansion is consistent with Google’s plans to phase out Google Assistant in favor of Gemini across its ecosystem.

Implications for Users and the Industry

The transition to Gemini on Google TV devices signifies a shift towards more sophisticated voice interaction. As AI technology continues to evolve, users can expect more intuitive and personalized experiences. However, the success of this transition depends on the effective integration of Gemini across various devices and the company’s ability to address potential issues.

As Google continues to roll out Gemini to more devices, users can look forward to enhanced functionality and a more streamlined experience. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of this update and its potential impact on the industry.
