Omantel and Zain Omantel International are partnering to host the 11th annual Global Carrier Community Meeting in Muscat on 5 and 6 November 2024, with the opening ceremony being graced by HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said. This event is bringing together 900 decision-makers and representatives from over 200 telecom and technology companies from 70 countries at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel. The focus of the event is on the rapid development of Salalah as a major connectivity hub in the Middle East, thanks to its strategic location and Omantel’s investments in cutting-edge technology infrastructure, specifically the “SN1 Carrier Neutral Data Centre”.

Ghassan bin Khamis Al Hashar, Chief Financial Officer at Omantel, highlighted the company’s achievements in the wholesale business, particularly in Salalah, which is set to become the region’s second most connected city by submarine cables. Omantel’s strategy revolves around investments in subsea cables, neutral data centers, partnerships with service providers, and attracting foreign direct investments in the technology sector. Eng. Yasser Al Lawati, Director of Marketing & Domestic at ZOI, expressed that the meeting is a valuable opportunity to contribute to the global telecommunications sector’s development and reshape the international wholesale scene.

The first day of the conference featured two specialized sessions, one by Google on submarine cable technology’s impact on global communication, and the other by Amazon focusing on cloud computing services and artificial intelligence. The event’s alignment with Oman Vision 2040 reflects the Sultanate’s ambition to become a global leader in telecommunications technology and digital infrastructure. Omantel is heavily investing in emerging technologies like AI, cloud solutions, and cybersecurity to offer state-of-the-art ICT solutions that will drive Oman’s future growth and development.

In conclusion, the Global Carrier Community Meeting in Muscat serves as a platform for industry leaders and experts to connect, share insights, and collaborate towards advancing the global telecommunications sector. Omantel and Zain Omantel International’s partnership underscores their commitment to driving innovation, fostering strategic partnerships, and positioning Oman as a key player in the digital economy. The event highlights Oman’s aspirations to become a leader in technology and digital infrastructure, showcasing its potential for growth and development in the telecommunications industry. The investments and initiatives by Omantel and Zain Omantel International reflect their dedication to driving Oman’s digital transformation and propelling the Sultanate towards becoming a leading player in the global telecommunications landscape.
