Real Madrid’s German international midfielder Toni Kroos recently announced his retirement from football after the Euro 2024. The 34-year-old World Cup winner shared the news on Instagram, stating that his career as an active player will come to an end this summer. Before the European Championship, Kroos has the opportunity to win his fifth Champions League trophy with Real Madrid as they face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1.

Kroos, who previously won the Champions League with Bayern Munich, joined Real Madrid in 2014 and formed a strong midfield partnership with Luka Modric. Real Madrid praised Kroos on their website, recognizing him as one of the club and international football’s greatest legends. Throughout his career, Kroos has also secured the Liga title four times, showcasing his dominance on the field.

In July 2021, Kroos initially announced his retirement from international football but changed his mind in February after discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann persuaded Kroos to continue playing until the Euro 2024, which will be hosted in Germany. Kroos expressed his satisfaction with his decision, noting that he wanted to finish his career at the peak of his performance level.

During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Kroos played a crucial role in Germany’s victory, scoring twice in a 7-1 victory against the host nation in the semi-finals. However, during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Germany faced early elimination in the group stage despite Kroos’ efforts. Kroos’ retirement marks the end of an era for the talented midfielder, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of football.

As Kroos prepares to hang up his boots, fans and fellow players alike are celebrating his remarkable career and achievements both at the club level with Real Madrid and on the international stage with Germany. His contributions to the sport will not be forgotten, and the football world will certainly miss his skill and expertise on the field. Kroos’ decision to retire at a time of his choosing reflects his thoughtful approach to his career and his dedication to playing at the highest level until the very end.
