The matches are scheduled for December 10th, 13th, and 17th, culminating in the final that will determine the best club in world football for 2025. The competition includes the FIFA Derby of the Americas and the FIFA Challenger Cup, leading up to the main FIFA Intercontinental Cup final. These games will feature clubs from across the globe, showcasing diverse footballing styles.

Qatar to Host Key FIFA Intercontinental Cup Matches

This marks the second year of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in its revamped format. In 2024, the inaugural tournament saw Real Madrid crowned champions at the Lusail Stadium. Qatar’s continued role as host underscores its commitment to becoming a global hub for sporting events, and its robust infrastructure proved capable during the World Cup.

Match Schedule and Participating Teams

The tournament kicks off with the FIFA Derby of the Americas on December 10th, pitting Cruz Azul of Mexico against the winner of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores competition. The winner of this match will then advance to face Pyramids FC of Egypt in the FIFA Challenger Cup on December 13th.

Finally, on December 17th, Paris Saint-Germain of France will compete against the champion of the FIFA Challenger Cup for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup title. These pairings are set, with several high-profile clubs already confirmed to participate.

Ticketing Details and Accessibility

Tickets are being sold in three categories, with a maximum of six tickets available per person per match. All tickets will be delivered digitally, eliminating potential logistical issues.

Notably, accessible seating options are available for disabled fans. Individuals requiring accessible seats are encouraged to submit a request via email to [email protected], with pricing starting at QR 20. This demonstrates a commitment to inclusive event access, a policy that was also strongly adhered to during the World Cup.

Leveraging Existing Infrastructure & Co-Hosting Capabilities

The choice of the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium as the venue for these matches allows Qatar to efficiently utilize facilities already in place from the 2022 World Cup. This minimizes costs and demonstrates sustainable event management.

Additionally, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup is strategically scheduled during rest days of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, confirming Qatar’s capacity to simultaneously manage and successfully execute multiple major international sporting tournaments. This is a significant achievement in event planning and logistics.

The success of the 2024 edition, combined with Qatar’s demonstrated ability to host high-caliber events, highlights the growing importance of club football on the international stage. The tournament’s popularity is expected to rise as it continues to evolve. Securing prestigious football events boosts Qatar’s sports tourism sector.

Looking ahead, the focus will shift to the on-field performances and the potential for upsets as the competition progresses. The outcome of the CONMEBOL Libertadores and other qualifying tournaments will ultimately determine the full roster of participating teams. Continued monitoring of ticket sales and fan engagement will also offer insight into the event’s overall success and impact.
