Indian cricket fans are known for their obsession with batsmen, but the star pacemen, including the yorker king Jasprit Bumrah, are finally receiving the recognition they deserve, according to Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir, who took over from Rahul Dravid in July, praised India’s world-class bowlers and highlighted the impact they have had on the team’s performance. He acknowledged that traditionally, Indian cricket has been focused on batters, but the country is now starting to appreciate the skill and talent of its bowlers.

Gambhir specifically highlighted Jasprit Bumrah as the best fast bowler in the world across all three formats, emphasizing the difference he can make in any game. Bumrah’s unique slinging action has proven to be effective in stifling oppositions and taking crucial wickets. Additionally, spin bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are essential to India’s bowling attack, especially in home conditions where spin bowling thrives. Gambhir recognized the contribution of Ashwin and Jadeja and their ability to create an impact on the game.

Despite his past reputation for having a short fuse and on-field altercations, Gambhir asserted that he has good relations with all senior players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He emphasized the importance of intention in taking Indian cricket forward and debunked any rumors of discord among the senior players. With India being clear favorites on home soil, Gambhir acknowledged the potential threat posed by Bangladesh, who recently secured a historic series win over Pakistan. Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, expressed confidence and determination to perform well in the upcoming series against India.

Rishabh Pant’s return to the Indian side after a previous injury adds strength to the team, with Dhruv Jurel waiting for his turn to showcase his talents. Gambhir praised Jurel’s skills but acknowledged that Pant’s return to the team may require others to wait for their opportunities. Looking ahead, India aims to maintain their position at the top of the World Test Championship standings and secure a spot in the final. Gambhir emphasized the team’s respect for all opponents and their commitment to playing good cricket in the upcoming series against Bangladesh.India’s strong start to the season is crucial as they prepare for a series of home Tests against New Zealand followed by a challenging tour to Australia.
