In a highly anticipated UEFA Euro 2024 Group D match, France emerged victorious against Austria with a 1-0 win at the Duesseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany. Maximilian Woeber’s own goal, caused by Kylian Mbappe’s cutback, was enough to secure the win for one of the tournament’s leading contenders, France. Despite the victory, Mbappe had to exit the game late on due to a bloody nose after a collision on the field.

Austria, under the guidance of coach Ralf Rangnick, put up a tough fight against the 2022 World Cup runners-up, making them uncomfortable with their pressing game. Mbappe missed a crucial chance earlier in the game that could have extended France’s lead. Nevertheless, Les Bleus were able to hold on to secure the win, providing relief to head coach Didier Deschamps and the French side.

N’Golo Kante was awarded the player of the match accolade after his solid performance in the midfield for France. As a result of this victory, France now finds themselves level on three points with the Netherlands in Group D. The upcoming match between France and the Netherlands in Leipzig on Friday is highly anticipated as both teams look to maintain their winning streaks in the tournament.

Austria, despite the defeat, had shown promising signs coming into Euro 2024 with a seven-game unbeaten run. The familiarity of their players with the German Bundesliga was evident, with eight players from their starting lineup having played in the league last season. The Austrian team will look to bounce back from this loss when they face Poland in Berlin on the same day as the France-Netherlands clash.

Overall, the match between France and Austria provided an exciting start to both teams’ Euro 2024 campaigns. With France securing a hard-fought victory and Austria showcasing their resilience, fans can look forward to more thrilling encounters as the tournament progresses. The French side will aim to build on this win and continue their quest for European glory, while Austria will seek to regroup and make a statement in their upcoming matches.
