Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is urgently calling for air-defence systems following a series of Russian strikes that have left dozens injured across the country. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that they successfully shot down 49 out of 116 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight, as well as ballistic and guided aerial missiles. Attacks were also made on the capital city of Kyiv, with city officials confirming that all drones were destroyed, but one man suffered facial burns. Tragically, two elderly individuals were found dead under rubble in the village of Novoplatonivka, and another person was killed in Sumy after critical infrastructure was targeted, resulting in blackouts.

Additional strikes across cities like Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kherson, and Donetsk left at least 37 people injured, according to local reports. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that they successfully destroyed a Russian air defence system located only 60 kilometers from the front line, with Ukrainian forces also managing to fend off 59 attacks in the Kurakhove sector in just one day. Russia is currently attempting to storm the Selydove sector in the Donetsk Oblast, as tensions between the two countries intensify. President Zelenskyy emphasized the urgent need for more air defence systems in order to protect Ukraine from the ongoing Russian attacks, highlighting the devastating impact of over 20 missiles, 800 guided aerial bombs, and 500 different types of strike drones used against Ukraine within the week.
