England’s midfielder #11 Phil Foden made headlines during the UEFA Euro 2024 Group C football match between England and Slovenia at the Cologne Stadium in Cologne. Despite facing criticism for its performances during the group stage, England remains unbeaten and will face Slovakia in the round of 16 at Euro 2024 on Sunday. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) in Gelsenkirchen. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming match.

England advanced to the knockout phase as group winner and unbeaten in three games. However, fans expressed their frustration at the team’s performance against Slovenia by jeering and even throwing beer cups towards manager Gareth Southgate. This marks Southgate’s fourth major tournament as England manager, and he has always managed to lead the team to at least the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Slovakia is playing in the round of 16 at a Euros for the second time as an independent nation, having previously reached this stage in 2016.

Under coach Francesco Calzona, Slovakia made a strong impression by defeating Belgium 1-0 in its opening game. Phil Foden has rejoined the England squad after returning home for the birth of his child, while Luke Shaw could make his first appearance at Euro 2024 after recovering from a hamstring injury. Southgate is reportedly considering starting teenager Kobbie Mainoo in midfield. Harry Kane scored his 64th goal for England in the match against Denmark, extending his record. England has a strong track record against Slovakia, being unbeaten in six games, with five wins and one draw.

Slovakia’s Juraj Kucka and Peter Pekarík are set to make their record-extending 11th appearances for Slovakia at the Euros. Both teams are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting clash in the round of 16. Southgate emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming match, stating, “Each individual game takes place on its own merit and can also take wild directions at times.” Slovakia captain Milan Skriniar expressed his pride in the team’s journey, from playing in front of 2,000 people in friendly matches to now being among the best 16 teams in Europe.

With both teams eager to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, the England vs. Slovakia match is highly anticipated. Fans can expect an intense battle between two determined teams vying for victory. The match promises to be a test of skill, strategy, and determination as both sides look to make their mark on the Euro 2024 tournament. Stay tuned for what is sure to be a thrilling encounter as England and Slovakia face off in this crucial round of 16 fixture.
