RIYADH — The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) initiated the first container rail shipment from Jubail Commercial Port to Riyadh Dry Port on Saturday. This shipment, consisting of 78 TEUs, marks a significant milestone in enhancing the Kingdom’s transportation and logistics sectors.

The operation was executed on the railway line that integrates Jubail Commercial Port with the East Train Network, which can handle up to 140 TEUs per journey. This development is part of a collaborative effort involving Mawani, the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA), Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR), and the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

This rail link is crucial as it connects Riyadh Dry Port with major ports like King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam and King Fahd Industrial Port in Jubail, among others. It is expected to significantly boost the efficiency of logistics operations, enhance the speed of container movements, and support the loading and unloading capabilities at these ports.

Furthermore, the new railway service is seen as a strategic enhancement to Saudi Arabia’s logistical infrastructure, helping to position the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub that bridges three continents. It also aims to elevate the quality of services provided at Saudi ports by introducing innovative logistics solutions that improve the efficiency of both exports and imports.
