The Saudi Film Commission has recently announced its membership in the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), which is an organization that brings together over 360 film commissions from 40 countries. This move is aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position in the global cinema sector and allowing national production companies and local talent to exchange experiences and knowledge with counterparts around the world. By joining AFCI, the Film Commission hopes to develop the film industry in Saudi Arabia and establish the Kingdom as a global hub for filmmaking, thereby contributing to the national economy and elevating the level of Saudi cinema both locally and internationally.

The AFCI works to support, empower, and connect film boards worldwide in order to develop the international film sector in a sustainable and integrated manner. It provides various services such as facilitating communication between film boards globally, sharing best international practices, offering training and development opportunities, and keeping stakeholders informed about developments in the sector. Established in 1975, the AFCI is a global non-profit organization that includes film bodies from different countries on 6 continents, focusing on initiatives that enhance economic growth in the film production sector. It also acts as a network connecting resources, educational opportunities, and funding options from various countries, benefiting film commissions, production companies, and professionals in the industry by facilitating joint productions between countries.

With a commitment to expanding its membership to fully represent the production scene, the AFCI aims to include studio partners, production enablers, backers, government offices, and former film commissioners. The organization offers resources and opportunities to film commissions and industry professionals worldwide, ranging from drafting international reports to establishing global best practices. Hosting world-class events that provide networking opportunities in major global film markets, the AFCI also offers professional certification for film commissions globally. By providing access to distinguished resources, the organization strives to elevate the industry on a global scale and enhance collaborations between countries in the film production sector.

Membership in AFCI not only benefits the Film Commission in Saudi Arabia but also helps in creating opportunities for the local film industry to grow and establish connections with the global community. By participating in the organization’s initiatives and events, Saudi Arabia can leverage the expertise and resources available within AFCI to enhance its own film sector. The collaboration with international film bodies and industry professionals allows for knowledge-sharing, skill development, and access to funding opportunities that can further boost the growth and visibility of Saudi cinema on the global stage.

Overall, the Saudi Film Commission’s decision to join AFCI represents a significant step towards solidifying the Kingdom’s presence in the global cinema sector. By becoming part of a network that connects film commissions worldwide and provides resources for industry development, Saudi Arabia can position itself as a key player in the international film industry. This membership not only opens up opportunities for local production companies and talent but also contributes to the overall growth and success of the Saudi film industry, ultimately benefiting the national economy and showcasing Saudi cinema to a global audience.
