Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced comprehensive transportation and parking plans to manage anticipated crowds for the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations. These plans include additional parking facilities near the Burj Khalifa and throughout Downtown Dubai, extended Dubai Metro and tram operating hours, and a network of free shuttle buses. The measures aim to ensure a smooth and safe experience for residents and visitors attending the 48 fireworks displays scheduled across 40 locations in the city.
New Year’s Eve Parking Solutions in Dubai
To mitigate congestion, the RTA is providing extra parking options close to the main event areas. These include facilities at Al Kifaf, Al Wasl Club, and Boulevard Lower, supplementing existing capacity at Dubai Mall, Zabeel–Dubai Mall, and Fountain View. These additional spaces are designed to accommodate the expected influx of vehicles as people gather to witness the festivities.
However, significant road closures are also planned to facilitate the celebrations and pedestrian movement. From 4pm on December 31st, Al Asayel Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, Lower Financial Centre Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, and Burj Khalifa Street will be closed. Further closures will be phased in, with Al Multaqa (Al Mulook) Street closing at 8pm, Upper Financial Centre Road at 9pm, and a partial closure of Sheikh Zayed Road at 11pm. Motorists are strongly advised to plan alternate routes and allow for considerable travel time.
Public Transportation Enhancements
Public transportation will be a crucial element of the New Year’s Eve plan. The Dubai Metro will operate non-stop for 43 consecutive hours, with increased service frequency at stations serving major celebration venues. The RTA cautions that the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station may be temporarily closed from 5pm onwards if it reaches maximum capacity, directing attendees to the Financial Centre or Business Bay stations, both of which offer parking facilities. Tram services will also be extended to support the increased demand.
Adding to the convenience, free shuttle buses will run between selected parking areas and key Metro stations, as well as to event zones. Free bus services will also operate from Swissôtel Al Murooj to both Al Wasl Club and Al Kifaf, facilitating access to these parking locations. Taxis will be available throughout the night to provide on-demand transportation. Travelers can check the S’hail app for detailed public bus timetables.
Intercity Travel and Marine Transport
For residents planning intercity travel, the RTA has issued specific guidance. The E100 route (Dubai–Abu Dhabi) will be suspended from the afternoon of December 31st and will resume service on January 4th. Travelers to Abu Dhabi are recommended to utilize the E101 route as an alternative. The E102 route will continue operating from 2pm on December 31st. These adjustments aim to prevent bottlenecks on heavily trafficked highway routes.
Furthermore, individuals intending to utilize marine transport are advised to check the RTA website for the most up-to-date schedules and timings, as these may be subject to change. Marine transport is expected to be popular for viewing the fireworks, so checking beforehand is important for trip planning.
Widespread Fireworks Displays
This year, the Dubai authorities have expanded the scope of the New Year’s Eve celebrations by organizing 48 fireworks displays at 40 different locations around the city. This initiative, the RTA states, is designed to distribute crowds and enhance overall safety. Key locations include iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Bluewaters, Burj Al Arab, Expo City Dubai, Global Village, Atlantis The Palm, and Palm Jebel Ali.
Additionally, free parking will be available throughout Dubai city on January 1st, 2026. This excludes multi-story car parks and the Al Khail Gate N-365 area, where regular fees will still apply. Normal parking fees will resume on January 2nd, according to the RTA announcement. These free parking provisions are intended to encourage residents to explore the city and enjoy the post-celebration atmosphere.
Authorities strongly urge both residents and visitors to prioritize public transportation whenever possible, arrive at event locations early, and strictly adhere to all instructions issued by official personnel. These precautionary measures are vital for ensuring a secure, efficient, and enjoyable New Year’s Eve experience for everyone participating.
Looking ahead, the full operational impact of the expanded fireworks displays and adjusted traffic routes will be assessed after the event. The RTA is expected to publish a post-event report detailing traffic patterns, public transport usage, and any areas requiring improvement for future large-scale events. Further updates regarding potential changes to public transport schedules or parking regulations should be monitored via the RTA website and social media channels in the new year.
