The UAE is likely to experience more extreme weather events in the future, as predicted by Dr. Diana Francis, a Senior Research Scientist at Khalifa University. Due to global warming, the country can expect increased rainfall in the spring and hotter, longer summers. These shifts in atmospheric patterns are causing severe weather events, such as heavy rainfall and heatwaves. Dr. Francis emphasized that these extreme events are expected to become more frequent annually.

Global warming is the main driver behind the recent increase in extreme weather events in the UAE, according to Dr. Francis. Reports from the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) suggest that these events will become more intense and more frequent due to rising global temperatures. Recent research by Dr. Francis highlights the changes in climate patterns in the MENA region, including shifts in temperature, winds, and seasons.

The impact of rising equatorial temperatures is fueling shifts in climate patterns in the Middle East and North Africa region. While the UAE and surrounding countries may experience more rainfall in the spring and extended summers with higher temperatures, the northern parts of the Arabian Peninsula, like Saudi Arabia, are likely to face more frequent droughts. The expansion of the equatorial zone will lead to a shift towards a more subtropical climate in these areas.

Dr. Francis stressed the importance of developing adaptation strategies to enhance the country’s resilience against extreme weather events. Cooperation at a global level is essential to address the issue of global warming effectively. Science and research play a crucial role in developing strategies to build resilience and ensure the sustainability of solutions over time. The UAE is already taking steps to assess the resilience of its infrastructure and implement strategies to mitigate the impact of future extreme weather events.

In conclusion, the UAE is facing a future of more frequent extreme weather events due to global warming. Collaboration and cooperation at an international level are essential to address the challenges posed by climate change. Developing adaptation strategies based on scientific research is key to building resilience and ensuring the sustainability of solutions. By taking proactive measures now, the UAE can prepare for and mitigate the impact of future extreme weather events.
