The Northern Governor of Bahrain, Mr. Ali bin Abdul Hussain Al Asfoor, recently launched a mosquito control campaign in Bu Quwah under the slogan “Mosquito control is the responsibility of everyone and by everyone”. The campaign is supported by Bapco Refining and aims to combat mosquitoes in the region. This initiative coincides with World Environment Day on 5th June and marks the first phase of evaluation and performance measurement.

The launch event was attended by various officials including the Deputy Governor of the Northern Governorate, representatives from the World Health Organisation in Bahrain, and other key stakeholders. Mr. Al Asfoor highlighted the campaign’s alignment with the Healthy Cities Programme, focusing on disease prevention, environmental protection, and community solidarity in combating mosquitoes. The campaign emphasizes a broad community partnership across governmental, civil, and private sectors to prepare volunteers for effective emergency response and promote health development.

During a tour of mosquito breeding sites, the Northern Governor explained the various measures being taken to combat mosquitoes, including removing waste, spraying pesticides, and educating the public through a media campaign. Informative leaflets were distributed to homes, and awareness videos were shared on social media platforms. The Governor stressed the importance of community involvement and adherence to campaign guidelines for its success.

Mr. Al Asfoor expressed his gratitude to Bapco Refining for their support and recognized the efforts of participating organizations including the Northern Municipal Council, the Northern Area Municipality, the Supreme Council for the Environment, and the Ministry of Health. He praised their community partnership and the contributions made during the campaign. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to designate the Northern Governorate as a healthy area by promoting a clean and mosquito-free environment for residents.

In conclusion, the mosquito control campaign in Bu Quwah led by the Northern Governor of Bahrain aims to mobilize community efforts in combating mosquitoes and promoting a healthier environment. The campaign emphasizes the importance of broad community partnership and effective emergency response preparedness.
