The Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum 1-2-3 recently organized an entertainment and cultural event in Doha to celebrate International Workers’ Day. Approximately 500 workers from various companies in Qatar attended the event, which aimed to add joy to the special occasion and honor workers on their international day. The event also provided an opportunity for workers to learn about the museum, its departments, and the activities it carries out.

Salem Al Muhannadi, representative of the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, expressed appreciation for the initiative to organize the event, highlighting the partnership between the Fund, the ILO office project in Qatar, and the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum 1-2-3. He emphasized the Fund’s commitment to organizing events that serve workers, including environmentally friendly activities, as well as various social, sporting, and cultural activities. Al Muhannadi also reviewed the laws and legislation implemented by the State to benefit workers and improve the work environment.

Abdullah Al Mulla, Director of the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum 1-2-3, praised the partnership between the Museum, the Ministry of Labour, and the International Labour Organization in organizing the event. He noted that the event reflected appreciation for workers in Qatar and provided them with an opportunity to step away from their daily work routine to raise awareness of their rights and the safe work environment provided for them. Al Mulla highlighted the efforts of workers in various work sites and the importance of acknowledging their contributions.

Max Tunon, Head of ILO Project office for the State of Qatar, commended the strong partnership between the organization and the State of Qatar. He mentioned that both parties recently signed an agreement to extend their joint work program for a new period of four years. This program aims to enhance the work environment, boost the competitiveness of the national workforce, and provide training to meet the needs of the labor market. Tunon also praised Qatar’s major reforms in various work sectors and emphasized the commitment of the ILO, the Ministry of Labour, and other concerned parties to work together to overcome challenges.

Tunon highlighted the third national development strategy of Qatar (2024-2030), which aims to develop a workforce ready for the future. He expressed pleasure in organizing the event, which coincided with similar celebrations worldwide in appreciation of the role of workers in building societies. The event served as a platform to celebrate workers’ contributions, create awareness of their rights, and foster a supportive and positive work environment in Qatar. Overall, the collaboration between the Fund, the ILO, and the Museum underscored the importance of recognizing and valuing the efforts of workers in the country.
