Summer has arrived in the UAE, with temperatures surpassing 50°C, prompting medical experts to advise the public on prioritizing their health and safety. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) issued a warning on Instagram about the likelihood of dust storms occurring during the summer season. These dust storms can carry pollutants and irritants that pose health risks to residents who are exposed to them regularly. With the peak of summer starting in mid-July, MoHAP recommended some essential steps for protection against the harmful effects of dust.

The first recommendation is to limit unnecessary outings, as dust storms can cause various health issues and affect the respiratory system. Residents are also advised to wear a mask, particularly an N95 mask, when going outdoors. Dust storms can trigger allergies such as itchy throat, irritable eyes, coughing, and sneezing. Sunglasses are also essential to protect the eyes from harmful UV rays during the summer, as prolonged UV exposure can lead to eye conditions like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

It is crucial to follow a medication schedule to manage any existing health conditions that might be aggravated by the dusty conditions. Additionally, carrying an emergency inhaler is strongly advised, especially for vulnerable groups such as asthma patients, the elderly, children, individuals with autoimmune diseases, and respiratory conditions. Staying hydrated by drinking water regularly is important to prevent dehydration which can cause fatigue, dizziness, and heatstroke. Lastly, keeping track of weather conditions and being prepared for any changes is essential for residents to know what essentials to bring and what activities to avoid depending on the weather.

In order to protect themselves from the health risks associated with dust storms during the scorching summer months in the UAE, residents are advised to take necessary precautions. It is recommended to limit outdoor activities to reduce exposure to pollutants and irritants carried by dust storms. Wearing a mask, especially an N95 mask, can help prevent respiratory issues and allergies triggered by dust. Sunglasses are essential for protecting the eyes from harmful UV rays that can lead to eye conditions. Following a medication schedule and carrying an emergency inhaler is crucial for individuals with existing health conditions that may worsen in dusty conditions.

Staying hydrated by drinking water regularly is important to prevent dehydration and maintain overall health during the hot summer months. It is also essential to check weather conditions regularly to stay informed and prepared for any changes in weather patterns. Taking these precautions can help residents in the UAE stay healthy and safe during the summer season. By following these recommendations from health experts and MoHAP, individuals can minimize the risks associated with dust storms and high temperatures. Prioritizing health and safety during the summer months is crucial for residents in the UAE to avoid potential health issues caused by extreme weather conditions.

In conclusion, as the summer temperatures soar in the UAE, residents are urged to prioritize their health and safety by following the recommendations provided by medical experts and the Ministry of Health and Prevention. Dust storms during the summer season can pose health risks due to pollutants and irritants carried in the air. By limiting unnecessary outings, wearing masks, sunglasses, and staying hydrated, residents can protect themselves from the harmful effects of dust storms. It is essential to follow a medication schedule, carry an emergency inhaler, and check weather conditions regularly to stay safe and healthy during the scorching summer months. By taking these precautions, residents can minimize the risks associated with extreme temperatures and dust storms, ensuring their well-being and safety.
