Nemo Mettler, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, was welcomed back to Switzerland with a hero’s welcome at Zurich Airport. Fans gathered in the hundreds to greet the 24-year-old singer with cheers, hugs, and cowbells, showing their support and excitement for his victory. Nemo won the contest in Malmo, Sweden, with his highly personal song, The Code, which resonated with audiences across Europe. The fans eagerly awaited his arrival, passing the time by singing renditions of The Code, showcasing their admiration for the artist.

As Nemo emerged from the flight wearing a fluffy sweater featuring a rabbit holding a carrot, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The singer greeted his fans with a double thumbs-up, took selfies, signed autographs, and celebrated with a group hug. At a press conference following his arrival, Nemo mentioned plans to relax in the garden and humorously referenced breaking the winner’s trophy, symbolizing breaking the code mentioned in his song. The singer expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, highlighting the sense of community and support he feels from the people of Switzerland.

Having previously won at the 2018 Swiss Music Awards, Nemo is a well-known artist in Switzerland. His victory at Eurovision was watched by an estimated audience of over 160 million people across 37 participating countries and online on YouTube. Originally from Biel/Bienne in Switzerland, Nemo currently resides in Berlin and has become a national sensation. The city of Biel is preparing to hold an official reception in honor of their hometown hero, further solidifying Nemo’s status as a beloved figure in the Alpine nation’s music scene.

Traditionally, the winning country of Eurovision hosts the following year’s competition. Switzerland is gearing up to host Eurovision in 2025, with multiple cities vying for the opportunity. Biel’s Mayor, Erich Fehr, expressed pride and joy in Nemo’s achievement, emphasizing the significance of a local artist winning such a prestigious competition. The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation chief, Gilles Marchand, praised Nemo’s success and highlighted the economic and cultural potential of hosting Eurovision. The event will showcase Switzerland’s artistic abilities and attract international attention to the country.

The anticipation for Nemo’s return to Switzerland reflects the pride and admiration felt by his fellow citizens. As plans are being made for the official reception in Biel, the city is considering partnering with nearby Bern to handle the logistics of hosting Eurovision. The event presents a significant opportunity for Switzerland to showcase its talents on a global stage, with the arts and tourism sectors expected to benefit from the exposure. Nemo’s journey from a local artist to an international sensation has captured the hearts of the Swiss people and established him as a symbol of musical excellence.

In conclusion, Nemo’s triumphant return to Switzerland symbolizes a moment of pride and celebration for the nation. His victory at Eurovision has brought him widespread recognition and acclaim, solidifying his position as a rising star in the music industry. The support and admiration shown by fans and officials alike underscore the impact of Nemo’s success on the Swiss cultural scene. As preparations are underway for Eurovision 2025, Switzerland is poised to embrace the spotlight and showcase its artistic talents to a global audience. Nemo’s journey from a local artist to an international sensation is a testament to the power of music to unite people and inspire communities worldwide.
