Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, is a sci-fi action dystopian film that is making waves in the Indian film industry. The film, set 6,000 years after the Mahabharata war, follows the story of a dystopian future where natural resources have dried up, and the divide between the rich and poor is stark. The plot revolves around a group of characters trying to survive in this futuristic world, including a bounty hunter, a pregnant woman, a rebel leader, and a character from the Mahabharata war.

While the film’s ambition to marry mythology with science is commendable, the execution falls short. The first half of the film is slow and disjointed, with random appearances of characters and misplaced comedy sequences. The special effects and music choices are also lacking, making it difficult for viewers to stay engaged. However, the film finds its footing in the second half, with captivating fight scenes and a nail-biting climax that leaves room for a sequel.

Kalki 2898 AD suffers from comparisons to Hollywood films, with noticeable similarities to popular franchises like Star Wars and Matrix. Despite this, the star-studded cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, adds to the film’s appeal. Amitabh Bachchan shines in his role, while Kamal Haasan’s impact is felt even in a short appearance. Prabhas, after a string of disappointing films, is presented well in this movie, even though some aspects of his performance are repetitive.

Overall, Kalki 2898 AD is a mixed bag of sci-fi, mythology, and action elements, with comedy, tragedy, and emotion thrown into the mix. While the film has a grand scale and ambitious vision, it falls short in its execution and fails to fully capitalize on its potential. Despite some standout moments in the second half, the film struggles to maintain momentum and may leave viewers wanting more. Whether you enjoy Kalki 2898 AD will likely depend on your love for the genre and willingness to overlook its flaws.
