In a unique collaboration between music and conservation, “Nature” became a musical artist with the help of stars like Brian Eno, Ellie Goulding, and Aurora. This initiative was part of a United Nations project to raise funds for conservation efforts. Music platforms officially recognized “Nature” as an artist on Thursday, with collaborations on tracks featuring sounds from different ecosystems around the world. For example, Goulding’s “Brightest Blue” remix included Amazonian birdsong, while Eno incorporated the cries of hyenas and rooks in his reworked track with David Bowie.

Indian superstar Anuv Jain added the soothing sound of Indian rainfall to his recent single “Baarishein”. Other contributors to this unique project included UMI from BTS, Bomba Estereo, and London Grammar. Spotify created a special playlist called “Feat. Nature” to showcase all the songs, while individual tracks were made available on other platforms. The Sounds Right project, initiated by the Museum for the United Nations – UN Live, aimed to garner 600 million streams over four years, generating $40 million for biodiversity conservation and restoration projects in threatened ecosystems worldwide.

Organisers of the project expressed their hope that this initiative would spark a global conversation about the importance of valuing nature and inspire collective efforts to protect the planet. Norwegian singer Aurora, who contributed her track “A Soul With No King”, emphasized the urgent need for action. She stated, “The world is calling for us. And it has been for a really long time. We can feel deep inside of our very core, that something is wrong.” Working on this project had a profound impact on her, something she described as having mended something within her.

The collaboration between music and nature not only creates beautiful and unique tracks but also serves a larger purpose – to raise awareness about conservation and generate funds for biodiversity projects. By incorporating sounds from different ecosystems into their music, artists like Goulding, Eno, and Jain are able to create a connection between their audience and the natural world. This initiative also highlights the important role that art and music can play in environmental activism and education.

By featuring these tracks on popular music platforms, the Sounds Right project aims to reach a wide audience and spark conversations about the value of preserving nature. The goal of the initiative is not only to raise funds but also to inspire a sense of urgency and agency in protecting the planet. With global challenges like climate change and deforestation threatening biodiversity, initiatives like this are crucial in promoting environmental conservation and restoration.

Through the power of music, artists are able to convey messages about the urgent need to protect the planet and inspire listeners to take action. The “Feat. Nature” playlist on Spotify serves as a platform for these artists to showcase their work and raise awareness about conservation efforts. By combining the beauty of music with the sounds of nature, this initiative highlights the interconnectedness of all living beings and emphasizes the importance of preserving our natural world for future generations. As the project aims to generate funds for conservation projects, it also serves as a reminder of the tangible impact that individual actions can have in protecting the environment.
