Former England football legend Wayne Rooney’s coaching career seems to be on rocky ground after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle. The decision came after just seven months into his three-year contract, with the team struggling at the bottom of the division with only 18 points from 23 matches. Despite Rooney’s efforts, Plymouth had a poor defensive record, conceding 51 goals while only scoring 22. The club announced Rooney’s departure on social media, stating that both parties agreed to part ways immediately.

Rooney expressed his gratitude to Plymouth for the opportunity to manage the team, stating that the club will always hold a special place in his heart. Unfortunately, this sacking adds to a series of disappointments in Rooney’s coaching career, making it challenging for him to find another coaching job. Prior to Plymouth, Rooney had a tough time at Birmingham City, where poor performance led to relegation to League One. His coaching stint at DC United in the US also faced challenges, with a mix of wins, draws, and defeats.

Rooney’s coaching journey began at Derby County, where he faced financial difficulties and ultimately got relegated to League One after being docked points due to economic issues. With his track record marred by struggles and setbacks, Rooney will face challenges in securing another coaching opportunity. Despite his accomplishments as a player, Rooney’s transition to coaching has been rocky, raising questions about his ability to lead a team effectively. It remains to be seen if Rooney can bounce back from this setback and revive his coaching career in the future.
