As the summer season in Qatar comes to a close, the Qatar Meteorology Department has announced the beginning of the “Al-Tarf” phase of the Suhail star. This marks the start of cooler days in the desert and signals the approaching end of the hot summer season. Historically, the appearance of the Suhail star has been associated with more pleasant weather and the anticipation of rainy days ahead.

During the Al-Tarf phase, Qatar may experience sustained humidity followed by a gradual decrease in temperature levels. The ‘Indian monsoon depression’ recedes, and cooler winds begin to blow, bringing relief from the summer heat. This period, lasting 52 days, sees a noticeable drop in temperature and humidity as each day passes. Additionally, daytime durations become shorter, resulting in longer and cooler nights.

Qatar residents can expect to see the Suhail star towards the southern horizon of the sky during the first week of September, according to Dr. Bashir Marzouk, an astronomy expert at Qatar Calendar House. The rising of the Suhail star on August 24 signifies the beginning of the four seasons—the Al-Murabba’iyah, Al-Wasmi, Al-Safri, and Al-Kanna. These seasons bring about changes in weather patterns and temperatures in the region.

The transition to the Al-Tarf phase of the Suhail star marks the start of the end of the summer season in Qatar. As the temperature and humidity gradually decrease, residents can look forward to cooler weather and longer, cooler nights. The appearance of the Suhail star is a significant event that heralds the beginning of more pleasant weather conditions and the anticipation of rain in the near future.

The Qatar Meteorology Department has highlighted the changes that accompany the Al-Tarf phase, including a reduction in humidity levels and a noticeable decrease in temperature. As the hot summer days give way to cooler winds and more comfortable weather, residents can expect a shift in climate that signals the approach of the winter season. This transition period is eagerly awaited by many as it signifies relief from the intense heat of the summer months.

Overall, the emergence of the Suhail star and the onset of the Al-Tarf phase bring about a welcome change in weather conditions in Qatar. With cooler temperatures, decreased humidity, and longer, cooler nights on the horizon, residents can look forward to a more comfortable environment as they bid farewell to the summer season. The transition to the Al-Tarf phase marks the beginning of a new season and a shift towards more pleasant weather conditions in the Arabian Peninsula.
