Korean flower teas are not just popular for their beauty, but also for their numerous health benefits. Recently, nearly 150 Emiratis and expats in Abu Dhabi had the opportunity to learn about the advantages of South Korean flower teas during an exhibition by the Korean Cultural Centre. The event, called ‘Blooms in a Cup: Flower Tea’, showcased the diverse uses of flowers in teas and introduced attendees to the unique flavors and health benefits of Korean flower teas.

Many attendees at the exhibition noted the cultural similarities between the UAE and Korea, particularly in the tradition of sharing tea with friends and family. Ewha Kim, head of media at the centre, mentioned that Emiratis showed great interest in experiencing the flavors and health benefits of Korean flower teas. The highlight of the event was a floral tea-making demonstration that captivated everyone, especially the lotus flower tea, which transforms in water to create a delicious tea.

The health benefits of various Korean flower teas were also highlighted at the exhibition. Lotus flower tea helps with blood circulation, anaemia, diarrhoea, hypertension, and headaches. Magnolia flower tea is beneficial for nasal congestion, sinusitis, and rhinitis, while Korean rosebay flower tea alleviates coughs and clears phlegm. Cherry blossom tea is believed to be good for skincare, improving conditions like freckles, hypertension, and asthma. Marigold tea, with its sweet taste and rich lutein content, aids in eye health, dry eyes, hypertension, asthma, and stomatitis.

To complement the floral teas, traditional Korean rice cakes were also served at the exhibition, offering a perfect pairing with the beverages and giving attendees a taste of Korean culture. The event received positive feedback from participants who appreciated the unique flavors and health benefits of Korean flower teas. The exhibition will continue until June 13, giving community members the opportunity to further explore the traditions of Korean teas at the centre.

Overall, the ‘Blooms in a Cup: Flower Tea’ exhibition by the Korean Cultural Centre in Abu Dhabi was a successful event that highlighted the beauty, flavors, and health benefits of Korean flower teas. Attendees learned about the cultural significance of tea in both Korean and UAE traditions, and got to experience firsthand the enchanting process of making floral teas. With the continued popularity of flower teas for their skincare and health benefits, events like these play a crucial role in promoting cultural exchange and awareness of the rich traditions surrounding tea in different cultures.
