Emirati Sara Ali Excited to Represent UAE in R&A’s Junior Open with The Open

The first Emirati to participate in the 54-hole Junior Open, Sara Ali, is set to make history as she competes in the prestigious tournament organized by The R&A from 15th – 17th July 2024. The event, held every two years near The Open venue, will take place at Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club in Scotland, close to The Open being played at Royal Troon Golf Club. Sara, along with Abdullah Darwish from the UAE, will be among 120 competitors, both boys and girls, under the age of 16 years old.

The Junior Open, established in 1994 and organized by The R&A since 2000, gives golf federations around the world the opportunity to select their best young golfer to participate in the tournament. Boys and girls will play in the same competition from different tees, competing in challenging conditions that will provide a unique experience. Sara, 15 years old with a 2.5 handicap, expressed her excitement about being the first Emirati to play in the event and looks forward to the journey to Scotland with her father, as well as the opportunity to attend The Open.

A total of 71 countries have confirmed their entry to the Junior Open, showcasing global participation in the prestigious event. Countries like Jordan, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia, and the UAE will be represented, adding to the diversity and competitiveness of the tournament. Past champions of the Junior Open include Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth from the US, highlighting the caliber of players who have succeeded in the event. This year, the England boys representative is Cameron Mukherjee, winner of the 2023 UAE World Amateur Junior Championship.

Participating in the Junior Open offers young golfers like Sara Ali the opportunity to showcase their skills on an international platform and gain valuable experience in a competitive environment. The event emphasizes inclusivity, with boys and girls from various countries coming together to compete and share their passion for golf.
