The Embassy of Peru in Kuwait recently hosted a captivating event celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations with the launch of “Un camino sin fin” (An Endless Path), a new poetry collection by the esteemed Sheikha Dr. Alanoud Al-Sabah. This launch isn’t just a literary event; it’s a testament to the growing cultural exchange and a beautiful illustration of how personal passion can bridge international divides. The book, born from a deep love of the Spanish language and inspired by travels across Latin America, promises a poignant exploration of life, love, and the enduring power of human connection.

## Celebrating 50 Years of Peru-Kuwait Relations Through Poetry

The book launch served as a key component of the ongoing celebrations marking the half-century milestone in Peru-Kuwait diplomatic relations. The event highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the Embassy and Research Journey, a partnership that has previously fostered a series of enriching cultural initiatives and lectures. Peruvian Ambassador Carlos Enrique Tomas Martin Jiménez emphasized the importance of these cultural exchanges in strengthening the bond between the two countries.

This collaboration underscores a broader effort to promote Latin American culture within Kuwait, particularly the beauty and nuance of the Spanish language, alongside recognition of the region’s rich Indigenous linguistic heritage, like Quechua. The embassy’s commitment to these initiatives demonstrates a dedication to fostering understanding and appreciation beyond political and economic ties.

## The Genesis of “Un camino sin fin”: A Love Letter to Spanish

Sheikha Dr. Alanoud Al-Sabah shared that the inspiration for “Un camino sin fin” stemmed from a profound and enduring love for the Spanish language. She began her studies in 2003, and this initial fascination quickly blossomed into a desire to immerse herself in the cultures where Spanish is spoken.

“The idea for the book was born out of my love for the Spanish language,” she explained. “My primary motivation for writing in Spanish stemmed from falling in love with the language itself.”

This passion fueled extensive travel throughout Spain and Latin America, experiences that became the fertile ground for her poetic expression. She detailed how she began keeping travel diaries, meticulously recording her thoughts and impressions in Spanish.

### Inspired by Landscapes and Emotions

The poems within “Un camino sin fin” are deeply rooted in the natural world and the emotional responses it evokes. Sheikha Dr. Alanoud described being captivated by scenes witnessed during her journeys – the mesmerizing patterns of clouds while in flight, the first glimpses of new lands like Brazil and Colombia, and the majestic views of mountains and plains in Cuba.

These observations, combined with personal reflections, form the core of the collection. She noted that even though she hasn’t yet visited Peru, she feels a connection to the country through its poetry, cuisine, and the friendships she’s forged with Peruvians. This imagined relationship, built on shared artistic appreciation and human connection, is a recurring theme in her work.

## A Decade of Poetic Reflections

“Un camino sin fin” is a compilation of 52 poems penned over more than a decade, from 2014 to 2025. The work isn’t simply a chronicle of travels; it’s a deeply personal exploration of the human condition, encompassing themes of love, friendship, happiness, and even the bittersweet experience of forgetfulness.

The poems blend real-life events with imaginative flights of fancy, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Latin American literary traditions. Sheikha Dr. Alanoud revealed that the drawings included in the book are taken directly from her personal notebooks, adding an intimate and authentic touch to the collection. The process of compiling these poems from her travel journals proved to be a profoundly impactful experience, taking over two years of dedicated work.

## Collaboration and the Power of Poetry

The creation of “Un camino sin fin” was also a collaborative effort. Sheikha Dr. Alanoud shared how a conversation with poet Pedro Javier Sedano from the Embassy of Peru led to the book’s evocative title. Sedano, also present at the launch, described the collection as “a journey of self-search and self-discovery,” where memories and emotions are beautifully transformed into poetry.

He further highlighted the presence of Kuwait within the verses, woven through its unique landscapes and history, while Peru emerges subtly through allusions to its celebrated literary figures like Vallejo, Arguedas, and Amaringo. Sedano’s insights emphasize the book’s ability to transcend geographical boundaries and create a space for shared human experience.

## A Lasting Legacy of Cultural Exchange

The launch of “Un camino sin fin” represents more than just the publication of a new book. It symbolizes the enduring power of cultural exchange and the ability of art – in this case, poetry – to foster understanding and connection between nations. Sheikha Dr. Alanoud’s dedication to the Spanish language and Latin American culture, coupled with the Embassy of Peru’s commitment to promoting these values, has resulted in a truly special event.

The book is now available, offering readers a chance to embark on their own “Un camino sin fin” – an endless path of reflection, emotion, and appreciation for the beauty of the world and the bonds that unite us.
